cleanmarine

Background and understanding

The IMO Annex VI sulfur regulation calls for a 0.1% sulfur limit in Emission Control Areas (ECA) by 2015 and a worldwide limit of 0.5% by 2020 or latest by 2025.
Approved ECAs include Baltic, North Sea, English Channel and US and Canada coasts and inland waters.

Compliance may be sought through shifts to distillate fuels or gas fuels (LNG or LPG). The most viable option however, is to continue operating the large bore, slow speed maritime machinery on Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) for which they are designed while removing the sulfur from the exhaust gas.
This is possible through the installation of a scrubber or as defined by IMO, an Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS).

Our first task has been to develop a practical and efficient EGCS which fulfill all the IMO requirements.
Our system is now ready for the market and is available for all ship types and sizes – being new buildings or existing ships.

The IMO Annex VI also put restrictions on NOX emissions. By January 2016 a 80% emission reduction is called for when new ships trading in ECAs must comply with the NOX Tier III standard. It is our ambition to have ready complementary technology able to meet this requirement.

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop and offer exhaust gas cleaning technologies allowing the maritime industry to comply with stringent emission requirements without increasing the fuel bill.
